I'm fairly sure my 6-year-old DD has a molluscum infection. It's on her inner thigh right around her underwear line and has been there since around mid-April. We saw her pediatrician in May for her well check appointment and the doctor didn't seem too concerned. She advised us to call the office back if more bumps showed up or if the didn't go away. Well, here it is almost July and they are still there (with a few new ones).
I did some googling and I've come to the conclusion that it is molluscum. We are headed to the pediatrician's office to get that confirmed, but the nurse already told me that if that is the case then there isn't anything that can be done to clear it up because it is viral.
We are already taking precautions so that it doesn't get spread to anyone else in the family since it is contagious for 6-12 months or until the bumps go away.
Has anyone else experienced this? Other than making sure she doesn't share towels with anyone else and disinfecting surfaces like the bathtub and toilet, is there anything else I should do? Any natural remedies to clear the bumps up faster? I read online that a dermatologist can freeze or cut the bumps off, but that seems entirely too extreme for me to even consider unless it was medically necessary.
