I have a breastfeeding question and I am hoping you all can help. I have flat nipples. Sorry if tmi. With dd1 she couldn't latch on. But I was stubborn as heck and kept trying and trying, then used a shield to help her. It took months to do it without the shield, but we eventually got there! I breastfed her for 20 months and she self weaned when I was just about hitting the 2nd trimester of pregnancy with my dd2. Since I breastfed for 20 months up until about 6 months before dd2 was born, it was a bit easier for dd2 to latch. Kind of like dd1 paved the way. lol.
But I am now 28 weeks pregnant with dd3 and dd2 is 5 and a half. So its been a few years and unfortunately the nipples seem to have gone back to being flat. I am wondering if I should use shells or something to try and draw them out so we don't have so much trouble. A friend told me they are bad and not to use them, so I am not sure if there is a better way, or even why she thinks they are bad. I am hoping you all can help me out with some advice. I will use a shield again if it becomes neccessary, but it would be nice not to need it this time. Regardless, I am a stubborn mama and I will make it work one way or another. lol. Thanks!
