If you had a hospital birth, what position did you push in and why? Just curious.

question added: did you choose the position or were you directed to that posiiton?

Did you push on your own timing or were you instructed when and how to push?

I was in bed half on my side with one leg up. It was just the position I ended up in...lol.

the nurses didn't tell you to lay on your side? Did you have any medications? Did you push as you felt fit or were you given direction?

Nobody told me what to do ever. I told my midwife that my body was pushing on it's own so she said go ahead and push. Nobody told me when to push. I just did what felt right. I didn't have any meds. I spent my whole labor pacing the room and they monitored me periodically with a portable doppler. My nurse was great. She would even sway with me.

I only ended up in bed when my legs wouldn't hold me anymore and delivered my baby girl maybe an hour after I retired to the bed.

With my first I was in squatting position on the bed, but the ob forced me on my back at the last possible moment.

Second time I was on all fours.

Both in squatting and all fours I had little conscious thought, I just followed my body.

In my first birth (5 years ago TODAY!!!) I was on my back, being coached with iv pain relief which made me loopy, but I pushed when I was ready and trying to avoid a c-section.

In my second, I was also on my back with no drugs, I Told the nurses I was ready, and I didn't really wait for the dr.

In my third, I was on all 4s backward no drugs no coaching, my mw walked into the room to literally catch my baby before she hit the bed.

My first 2 I was required to stay in bed on my back legs in stirrups. #3 I had a midwife in a birth center affiliated w/ a hospital and ended up on my hands and knees, leaning on dh for support.
