My mw told me whatever floor I birth on plan on living on that floor for the first day or two because you wont be able to go up and down stairs

I live on the 3rd floor of a building, and see no issue with that. Taking the stairs may not be as easy as usual, but it's getting more difficult during pregnancy, anyway, haha.

Huh...I would still use stairs. Maybe not right after the birth, but if I tried and felt comfortable with them I would.

I didn't have a home birth, but I did stairs 25 hours after giving birth at a birthing center. There was no way to get to my apartment without doing stairs. I don't remember having trouble doing them, but I remember not trusting myself to hold the baby and go up and down them. I was also a first time mom and I was afraid everything I did was going to hurt the baby :p
