Bumbo seats..are there any drawback for the spine or hips?

I have 4 children, never had a bumbo seat for the older 3.  Was considering buying one from my friend that runs a consignment shop for he youngest. I know crotch danglers(think bjorn carrier), exersaucers, jumperoos, are all bad for baby's hips so I don't use those.  But what about Bumbo seats?  He doesn't sit in any other contraptions except an infant seat when we drive(I babywear w/ a moby when shopping, never take the carseat out of the van).

UPDATE.  I was conflicted but I decided to go for it.  My plan is to not have him in it for more than 10min or so at a time and probably only once a day.  And only after he has turned me down for tummy time.  He enjoyed siting in one so much when we were visiting my mom(she runs a daycare so she has one) that I really wanted it.  He'll only use it while I am sitting there on the floor with him.  I have 3 other children so we could do some craft project or something while he watches.  I know it's a frivolous buy but for $18 and knowing I will probably be able to resell it for 15 made it worth it for this short amountof fun.  He didn't slump in it when we tried it yesterday so that's neat and his grin was so huge!  I think since I won't use all the other baby contraptions(aside from my Moby wrap..which is good for baby) that it will be okay.

I was wondering the same thing. My baby is at the age where he prefers to be sitting up on his bum but can't sit completely unassisted.

I found this through the power of google....still undecided.   The part about the leg holes being far apart being hard on a pelvis doesn't fit with other things I have read abour babywearing.  Hmmmm

1. The Bumbo seat: This seat has become really popular in the past 2-3 years. The nice thing about the seat is the tapered leg-holes that hold the babies into the seat to be able to hold them up in a sitting position. They also come with a tray that you can put on the seat to allow you to feed your baby while they sit in it. This is a simple seat that is really soft and stable. The issues with this seat?? The first issue that has come up since it’s creation is injuries to babies because parents are dumb and they sit their kids in the seat on the kitchen counter!! So the babies fall off the counter in the seat and it has caused injury, who knew?! The other issue with this seat is that the leg holes are really far apart so for a baby who has either a small pelvis, or isn’t sitting up on their own yet, this is too much stress on their pelvis too early. Biggest things with this seat are A) Don’t be ridiculous and put your baby on a high counter in the seat and B) Wait until they are sitting and crawling on their own without assistance before use.  http://www.family-wellness.com/baby-seats-what-works-and-what-hurts/

I talked to our Chiro before putting LO in one. She said it was fine. Just to follow the guidelines (no high surfaces and such). It didn't last long for is though, it was handy for a couple weeks. Glad I got mine second hand :)

do you think $18 would be to much to spend on one(2nd hand consignment shop)?

If you get one, get the tray with it so you can put the baby's toys or snacks on it and they aren't trying to lean forward to the floor.

Nope. I got mine for 15 at a consignment shop, other consignment shops and places had them second hand for thirty. : ) If you look around you will find 18 is a steal!
