Can someone help me find reliable info about this whooping cough "epidemic"
My MIL brought this to my attention yesterday and said her friends daughter is making everyone that wants to see her newborn get a booster for pertussis. My MIL said she was running out to get a shot so she could come see my new baby (due in Sept) but I told her not to just yet. I tried doing research but I'm not sure if I want to make my family go get booster shots. I'm not 100% sure I'm fully vaxing this kid yet but now I'm so confused!
I'm reading that pregnant women should get the shot but I'm not a fan of getting anything while pregnant. However when this baby is born my DD will be just starting preschool and now I'm scared she might bring home whooping cough (amongst other things) and that my baby will get very sick. IDK what to do. Where can I find reliable info? I'm new to the whole delayed and/or non-vaxing stuff as I fully vaxed my DD.
well theres a lot of places you can find info but its hard to find some that are unbiased. you have to really search. i find reading the vaccine package inserts are a good starting place. look up the ingredients in them. what they do, how the fight off infection, etc.
this article here is on the recent outbreak here in NC. it talks about how the only people who got Pertussis were among the vaccinated. http://www.thetimesnews.com/news/school-53424-department-health.html
The CDC admits that those vaccinated with the Pertussis vaccine become silent carriers of pertussis, spreading it to others, and causing the outbreaks. And yet they continue to push new parents to get a vaccine that doesn't work.
"Vaccinated children may be asymptomatic reservoirs for infection."

Yep. Getting vaxxed for pertussis as a child provides about 10 years of immunity (per the CDC). So once your child is done they need another booster later on and then adults should get one every 10 years in order for the vaccine to work the way it's designed to work. Now most adults haven't been doing that and there appears to be several vaccine resistent strains going around. The CDC hasn't fully admitted that the current vaccine isn't providing immunity but my guess is that there going to come out with one that is more effective and tell everyone that they need to get vaccinated all over again.
Quoting bbmkfo03:So the people spreading pertusis are the ones who GOT vaccinated??

Sorry it isn't clicky. From the CDC themselves.

Well, this is scary! This article discusses DTP (whole cell) and in the US, DTaP (acellular) is what is used. I wonder if that makes a difference......

I don't think it makes a difference. DTP is no longer available in the US only the DTaP is. Yet there continues to be Pertussis outbreaks in the vaccinated populations.

I am finding it very frightening that the cdc is urging people to get this vaccine even though on their own site they admit that those who get the vaccine may carry the illness without symptoms. It seems like this is where our concerns should be, not whether the vaccine actually works or not. Personally I would be happy to get a vaccine if it might prevent my child from getting sick but if the vaccine actually hides my illness then how am I supposed to protect my children?

This is exactly my concern. Why would I make family and friends get a vaccine to "protect" my newborn if it doesn't really work? I'm so confused!!
