Whooping cough immunity???

If a person had Whooping Cough at one point in their liftime could they catch it again? Or are they now immune to it?

Infection creates a natural immunity. That doesn't mean you can't possibly get it again, but it's unlikely.

I heard someone mention that catching whooping cough provides immunity for about 30 years but I haven't seen any data on my own.

I'm also thinking the strains mutate over time, and usually if it is a different strain you will not be immune to it.

I once read -you'd have to research bc I have no source- that they now think the immunity is more like 70 years.

Wow! That's good to know. I was unsure about the vaccine. My husband will probably have to get it as he's military but my daughter & I won't be!
