Do I even need to be concerned with this?

Syntocinon Injection to deliver placenta after a natural birth at the hospital? How long does a placenta take to come out on its own? I'm trying to figure out what to put in my birth plan. The less medications/injections for me the better. I want to avoid all med side effects...

Nursing baby and uterine massage will help pass the placenta.

Yep!

My first was a pit induction so there was pit for the placenta. My dd was born so quickly I didn't even have an IV for them to inject anything into. I'm not sure how long her placenta took. Her birth is kind of a blur. With my 3rd, nursing and massage were hospital policy, placenta took about 10min to come out. With my 4th, nursing and uterine massage instead of an injection at my request, placenta took about 30min.

I believe it was 20 mins, w/o injections.

 I did not have this.

The placenta came out just fine. I did not even notice it. They put my daughter on my chest and delivered the placenta naturally and without complications while I was paying attention to her.

I don't think I had an injection. It was not mentioned to me so I will fo with no. I think mine came out about 15 min after my DS was born.

I did consent to this. I saw no risks to it. Does anybody know what the risks may be for this considering baby has already been delivered?

Well in my case I'm asking b/c I'd like to avoid any side effects as pitocin and syntocinon (same thing) can produce side effects just like any other medication.

I read sometimes they inject it in the thigh after baby's head is delivered so that the placenta will come out immediately after baby so technically baby would still get some of the medicine.

Ahhhh, I had the injection after baby was delivered and cord was clamped (delayed).
It may not have been needed but I feel like it was one battle that I didn't need to fight especially since I couldn't find any real risks to it. I may be wrong though.

Also, to my understanding it is to help the uterus clamp down to stop bleeding too. I had a lot of bleeding....

That is what I am asking.... What would the side effects or risks be? My concerns about getting pit to induce labor are obvious but I don't know what they would be after baby is born other than cramping.
