What motivates you to do natural things?

One of the things I like is that naturally minded mommas come from a variety of backgrounds and situations.  So what motivates you to be crunchy?  Money savings, concern for the environment, avoiding chemicals, supporting local business, a belief that the way we lived decades/centuries/eons ago was better?

I think for our family money is the first thing that interests us.  If we hear about and it saves us money there's a good chance we're on board.  After that we like to live in balance with the Earth as much as possible and not overly use resources.  It's interesting because my husband did not grow up in a home where doing natural things was the norm but his beliefs still fit in.  He likes to hunt and we use just about everything off the animal, buy used clothes, recycle containers for other things.  I like supporting small business but honestly I usually will do so only if it's better quality or cheaper overall than buying commercially.

Mostly to avoid chemicals. Saving money is a plus but honestly around here its soo much more expensive to buy natural healthy foods and products. We do a garden and my side of the family hunts so we have deer and fresh veggies a lot. As a wahm myself I really try and support other Wahm if I can afford to, but like you sometimes I can't, so in that case I may try to make my own of whatever it is.

4 moms liked this
I feel a great desire to be complete homesteaders. Its just so amazing and perfect to me. I'm facinated by the amish, native americans, etc. Living off the land and doing it all on our own just feels right

Two things: money and health.

The fact that the reasons include, cheaper, healthier, more intune, better for the environment, tell me that obviously its just better:)

My motivation is to avoid chemicals and not to add said chemicals to the environment. My skin is very reactive to a lot of things, I have terrible seasonal allergies, and I'd rather not deal with rashes and lung irritants.

I agree with you OP. It all started for me with breastfeeding. I wanted to do that because I felt it was so important. Then I started reading about cloth diapering and natural parenting. A lot of the things I do because it saves us money. But whenI sstarted learning about all of the chemicals in everything it was really eye opening and I became passionate about it.

I really like how people did things in the past as well.

I agree! I have always read historical fiction and been intrigued with how native Americans lived.

It's mostly health reasons, but cost does come into play.
