I'm a little behind in the GMO issue. Call me silly, but how do I find out if a food is GMO-free? Any good resources to check out?? I buy as much fresh food as possible, and buy from the local farmer's market...but now I'm concerned about everything in my fridge.

The only way for certain is to buy organic.

And I do, however, I read somewhere that even if it's organic, try could've used genetically altered seeds.

Whole foods doesn't carry any foods that are GMO. So we try to shop there as much as we can. Otherwise we try to find labels that say "Non-GMO" or GMO FREE.

A lot of things in the organic aisle will be labeled non-GMO but unfortunately organic alone does not mean non-GMO.

And we don't have one close. Sigh. I try to buy local, but that doesn't always work either. My close options are Walmart and Kroger...

Some of their frozen produce comes from China, where they rely upon third party verification, which has been found to be inconsistent at best.

OP - there is an organization that labels brands and products with their verified non-gmo sticker. I think it is actually called the Verified Non-GMO Project.

WE try and buy most things locally. Many of the organic brands are owned by big companies that use gmo's so I don't trust them.
