Alternative present ideas

My kids have way too many toys and I'm planning on selling some before Christmas. I started asking for different things rather than toys or clothes (unless we need them). My aunt and uncle now get our whole family a zoo pass instead of toys. My FIL gets us a museum pass. We use both almost weekly so it's a great gift!

Do you ask for any alternative gifts to toys from family? Or do you have any ideas?

Book store gift card? You could take them to story time and then have some $ in case they want the books from story time.

Good idea! Or a toddler yoga class at the family center!

I love your ideas. On one of my birth boards somewhere I saw this. "One to read. One you need. One to wear. And one you want. " so my mom does that for us. DS will get some size ahead clothes, a book, something recommended by his speech therapist and something just for fun.

Not yet since DS is only one and doesn't have many toys.

When the kids are older we'll probably ask for things like zoo and museum pass, bookstore gift cards, swim classes, etc. Growing up I always asked for cookbooks.

We get the passes too!

My MIL get us a yearly family gym membership. My parents get us a pass to the garden and sculpture park and children's museum.

When we give gifts to families we give board games, family bowling passes, and magazine subscriptions.

*so much better than giving and receiving toys

I teach baby swim and I have grandparents give lessons for Christmas all the time! I like to give magazine subscriptions to my nieces and nephews like national geographic kids, or highlights. They seem to enjoy it and it gives all year!
