What bar soap do you use? Dr. Bronner's has a citrus scented one that seems like it would make the clothes smell good. I have always used Fels Naptha but am going to try Kirk's Castile soap...
Thoughts?

I had checked Kirk's soap a few months ago on the EWG site and it rated a 4, it was updated in Oct. '12 though and now has a 0 rating so I will probably go back to it. I currently use Fels Naptha but there is so much conflicting info on it that I've never felt 100% comfortable in it's use from an eco standpoint, but it certainly does a good job cleaning.

I've always used Fels Naptha. I've heard Ivory works too but never tried it.

I've used Irish spring, ivory, and once even several mini bars that DH brought home from hotels.

It does. That what I had to use when I was back visiting Kansas and making my mom a batch.

How do you make your soap. Can you use it on cloth diapers? I have always wanted to try it. I am allergic to so many detergents.

1 mom liked this
1 bar soap grated- Fels Naptha, ivory soap, Kirk's, Zote, dr bronner's etc
1 cup WASHING soda
1 cup Borax
I add 1 cup 7th gen oxygen bleach or other comparable oxygen bleach

There is a big debate if Borax is safe for dipes. I have used it before with no problems but you can eliminate the Borax for dipes and just use the washing soda & oxygen bleach with grated soap. Supposedly Borax can cause dipes to delaminate.

Use 2-3 Tbs for front loaders or 3-4 tbs for top loaders.
