My first 2 babies, at 6 months. My next 2 kids never got purees, they were self-feeding bits of food from about 7 months. I never sat and spooned food into their mouths. I'd never go back to purees.

I started him on regular solids at 6 months and he wasn't sitting yet which is a big no no and he ended up throwing up very bad from them, I did a little research and some people think they learn to swallow when they learn to sit.
I tried purees at 7 months and he didn't care for them and just wanted to play with the spoon. A few days after he turned 7 months I tried table food again and he did okay but got frustrated with them because he wasn't very good at getting them in his mouth.
I figured out he preferred table food but wanted me to put it with my fingers.
Now at ten months he is a master at table foods and eats A LOT of solids!

With Isis I made home made purées with bm beginning at six months.
With Hera I started giving her regular human food when she was ready, which happened to be six months.

I should add I didn't go by age, I went by markers. Baby should be at least six months, able to sit unsupported, master the pincer grasp, and have lost tongue thrust reflex. Only then I offered to see if babe was ready.

We didn't give pureed food. Regular foods at 6 months. She showed all the ready signs at about 5.5 months but I waited. She also mostly explored and played with food until about 8 months.
