The cost of a Home Birth

I just found out I am pregnant (2-3 weeks) with my second baby. YAY! :)

This time I am interested in hiring a midwife and having a home birth. Our insurance doesn't cover a home birth, and I'm sure most don't, so I'm wondering how much it costs to hire a midwife privately.

Is there a place I can go to find one in my area?

TIA!

Depends on the area. Where i live ita between 4400-6500, but u have also found some midwives who work with families with financial difficulties as well.

I'm not sure where you are, but in my area, some insurances will cover a homebirth through a freestanding birthcanter (even as in network for some) perhaps the insurance companies don't actually know its homebirth by the way it is billed, but the free standing birth centers have been working very hard at this and it is quite recent. Maybe look around some more.

In my area, there are no midwives. After a few years of looking, I just found one kinda far out that will come this far. I know my insurance isn't going to cover it.

Sometimes insurance will cover homebirth, other times not. Get in touch with local natural mothering moms (through breastfeeding, natural mothering, etc. groups) for info on who is practicing in your area, who would be recommended (or not), etc.

I didnt use a midwife, but a doula who is a student midwife. She was a friend who had had four homebirths herself.i also had another girl from my birthgroup who had had two homebirths there. It cost me $350 for it all.

It depends on the area, around here they vary from 2000- 4500 approximately.

We live in north Texas. I paid 3500 for her fee which included all blood work, prenatals, birth and apps till 6 weeks, she also filed some of our paper work.

Another 500 or so for the birthing pool, supplements, 1 US and birth kit
