So it went good... then bad

I went to the chiropractor today for the first time in my life. I was really nervous, but the chiro was really nice. He told me that he would talk me through everything before he did it. I told him about how I had a lot of lower back pain, and he was able to find the exact spot on my hip where a lot of the pain radiates from within seconds. I relaxed a lot after he did that, because I began to trust him.
The adjustment went fine and my back has not felt this good in a really, really long time.
Now for the bad... The chiro tells me that I finish up with "therapy" after the adjustment. I go into this room with all these curtain rooms with massage looking tables. I thought that I was going to get a massage... Nope. He does electrode type therapy where you needed the most adjusting. So he put these electric pad things on my shoulder and on my lower back. He adjusted the current to a level that I was comfortable with.
At first it felt annoying, then it got uncomfortable, then my anxiety escalated. I hit the stop button, but it didn't make them all stop with the current. The assistant heard the button get pushed and ran in. She was getting freaked out as I was pulling these things off of me. She kept telling me that I was going to hurt myself. I was crying by now and telling her that I need them off now! I ripped them all off myself.
The chiro heard all of this and came to talk to me. He told me that he will put on my chart to not do "therapy" again since I had such a strong reaction against it.
So otherwise, it was a good experience. He wants to see me one more time next week. He said that he doesn't seem to think that he is going to have to see me after that. Btw- he said that before the freak out.

I feel kind of sore right now. Will I be sore tomorrow?

I'm sorry you had that experience. I hope you feel better tomorrow.  I've never had a chiro do any treatment like that.

You will probably be sore tomorrow, drink lots of water it will help flush out the lactic acid more quickly

Chiro always tells us to drink a lot of water after the adjustment.  I'm assuming it's to help flush the toxins out, like they suggest you do after a massage.

So the good news is that he thinks you don't need a lot of adjustments!  I like it when they let you come in on your terms instead of wanting you to come in 2 times per week for 3 months...

Its a TENS Unit ladies....:-) my chiro uses it before adjustments usually with a heating pad. It relaxes the muscles. But if you weren't comfortable with it im glad he listened.

I hate the TENS units. They are usually only used if you have muscles that are spasming. But for me they always make my muscle spasms worse.

Glad your adjustment went well, but sorry you had that reaction. I have received chiro treatment before and found it helped immensely, but would not even consider allowing use of a tens unit.. I have a true phobia..  :o(

I loved the TENS unit! You will be sore for a day or so after adjustments. It does help. I work for neurosurgeons and medical spine specialists. Physical therapy and chiropractic are the way to go. Sometimes it takes time to heal.
