Piog: How I stripped my cloth diapers using the rain

Here is my normal wash routine:  I rinse every pee and poo microfiber insert before putting them in the dry bucket. Every 3 days or so, wash inserts and prefolds without detergent on Bulky setting (because that is the highest water setting on my HE top loader), Wash pockets and covers with inserts with detergent on hot using bulky, Wash inserts and prefolds again. I then hang all my inserts and prefolds on those pants hangers that have two clips.

Experiment #1: Hang dirty inserts and prefolds straight from the dry bucket in an all day rain. Bring in the inserts and prefolds in and wash with detergent and covers. Wash the inserts again without covers or detergent. Hang over night

Result: Some of the inserts came back to life.  The ones that needed the most stripping had very little noticeable difference

Experiment #2: Hang clean dry inserts in an all day rain. In the evening, I washed all the inserts without detergent and let them dry over night.

Result: I noticed that this really brought life back to my inserts, even the ones that were in need of stripping the most.

Experiment #3: Wash the dirty inserts in the bulky setting and then hang them out in the rain. In the evening, I washed them with detergent and the covers. Finished up with the wash by themselves without detergent and hung them overnight

Result: Not much different than Experiment #1

Variables: Some days were more rainy than others, some inserts needed less stripping than others, some inserts improved with each experiment because they didn't need as much of a stripping, and some inserts fell onto the muddy ground when it got windy.

So I would say Experiment #2 was the best result :)

This is really neat! What gave you the idea? I've never heard of it before.

We have hard water and even with a water softner, my inserts get build up. They turn from soft and fluffy to rough and flat. Doing a rain strip was my lazy way of getting out of the blue dawn way of stripping.

I stole the idea from a mama in cuties with cloth booties. She had left her diapers out on the line during a 3 day rain storm and said how her diapers were like new.

I might try this once we start getting rain instead of more snow.
