Ultrasound, but NOT finding out the gender?

I had no intentions of having an ultrasound with this baby BUT my midwives require me to have one because I've had a previous csection. They want to make sure the placenta is not over my scar. The thing is, I don't want to find out the sex of the baby. I didn't think it would be that difficult to avoid "that" area during an ultrasound but I went to my sister's and her and her husband didn't want to know what the baby was, only me and his sister so that we can do the gender reveal. Turns out the tech was VERY careless! Even giving my sister a clear side view picture of the baby with his boy part hanging out! lol. (We convinced her it was part of his leg since it's her first but I don't know if she buys it because it's so obvious lol) So now I'm paranoid that the tech will slip and I'll see! I would be so upset!! If I see I'll definitely know! This is my 5th baby and I have 2 girls 2 boys, so I'm very aware of what those parts look like! lol. Does anyone have any experience with having an ultrasound and not finding out the sex? Any suggestions?

Just tell them that you don't want to know, other than that I am not sure what to do

I couldn't find out the sex of my daughter for awhile. We just did ultrasounds until we found out.

Yeah, I can tell.

If I was having an ultrasound I would make sure the technician knew I could identify parts VERY well.  :)  Maybe if they are going to be in that area they can tell you to close your eyes??

Or just be sure that the ONLY purpose of the ultrasound is to look at the placenta.  That will give you less of a look at baby, but would help keep it a secret.

I didn't find out the gender of either of my children during US's. I was lucky and had technicians who respected my wishes and told me to look away when they got close to looking at the genitals.
Good luck :)

We had an ultrasound with our first 3 kids (matter of fact MANY ultrasounds with one of them) and never had a slip.

I made it very clear that i didn't want to know the gender. If they were even going near that area then i didn't want to even be looking at the screen.

That makes me feel a lot better. I'm going to an ultrasound only place so hopefully they'll be very good at being careful :P

Good luck! I hope they just look for the placenta and not try to do a full fetal scan this way it'll limit the time and chance of mistakes.

this is my second time not finding out. i also have to have an ultrasound to make sure the placenta is not over my scar/cervix. just tell them you do not want to know the gender, so could they do an scans in that area first so you dont see anything, then they can turn the screen to you.

I'm pregnant with twins and don't want to know - I just don't look at the techs monitor while they measure stuff so I don't see. Then at the end they show me profile and cute stuff like that. If they have a tv for you just say you don't want it on till the end and see if they will just do all the cute stuff last for you. Hope it all works out and congrats!!

My fourth i didnt want to know, my husband did. We told them several times and they were very respectful. Then they saw abnormalities, so I had to go ti a specialist and check in 3D. I told them I wasnt finding out. They didnt show me and asked me again to he sure I didnt want to know. So, thr secret was kept until she was born :)
