  • Anybody else struggle to get an agent?  I found one who uses a very nice process at WL Children's Literary AGency.   Just type that in and read about it, and see if you like it.  I mainly wrote magazine articles for years, but when I finally wrote a children's book, the agent process had been really underestimated.  It was very difficult.  I like these folks and signed with them.  Thought I'd share it in case someone else needed it.  Best wishes to everybody on their writing efforts.

If I were you, I would do a yahoo search on this company.  I don't want to rain on your parade, but in this business, you have to be very careful about who you submit your work to.  If you check out what some people are saying about them you might think twice about working with them.  I also started to work with them at one point and then they began requesting money from me, when at at the beginning, they told me they wouldn't.  Someone tipped me off that they might not be a reputable company.  So, that prompted me to do my own research.  I found that it would be better to work with an actual agent.  I know I've got a link somewhere about how to actually get an agent that isn't going to rip you off.  And the biggest tip I got was that a real agent will never ask you for money.  They sell your work and then they take a cut of what you make.  They don't request critiques or anything like that.  So, just check it out before you give them any money.
    Best of luck to you!

  • Hi PrinessNicole:

I just wanted to thank you for the information you provided on the W L Children's Literary Agency. And, I Agree with you 100%. Writers should be as protective of their hard work as well as their money. If the agency asks for money, its good to assume they are not legitimate. Their pay in representing writers will come from what the authors earn. These type of agencies can very well make a tremendous and luxurious living from fees of overly enthused writers. Safeguard your work as well as yourself. Yes, its difficult finding a reputable agent. I,myself is still in search of one. But, please do not let anyone get over on you!

  • Hello fellow writers with the passion for words...

I hope to connect and get aquainted with you all. I am a mommy of six wonderful children and business partner with my hubby; plus I help run a women's ministry that publishes a weekly internet newsletter and website. To have the time to write is a great feat in itself. But since it is my passion, I try to squeeze it in as I get inspired. I am currently working on two pieces; an autobiography of my crazy adventures, and a women's study series that hopefully will give love, life, and laughter to the beautiful ladies out there. I welcome advice from the published authors that have paved the way for the rest of us!! I am looking forward to meeting you all...

  • I am still working my way to publishing my crazy adventures too, but if I can give some hopeful encouragement....Write your story and don't worry how many other books are out there that may be similar. I have felt the same way when scanning the shelves at the local book stores wondering if I can even scratch the surface to what is already out there. The fact is that they are not like your story, because you are unique and your story is your story!!! It's like a puzzel picture. The picture may be of one scene and each piece shares in the color scheme of it when put together, but each piece if different! That is you, you are different than all the others, so tell your story like only you can tell it!

Hope this helps to inspire you and give you love, life, and hope...

  • I'm new to this site as well...I signed up a while back but I just got into actually checking it out.  I'm also new to the writing thing...sort of.  Let me explain.  I have been working on the same book ever since I met my husband.  That was 7 1/2 years ago.  The worst part is i'm only on chapter 4 and it has no title.  All that being said I came to learn how to break past writer's block and finally get some real work done.  Then maybe I will be able to get it published....
If I'm right 90% of the time, why quibble over the other 3%.

  • Hi All!

My name is Michelle, and I have authored two textbooks.

I currently have an agent pitching my non-fiction book to publishers.

My advice on landing an agent?  Read all the books you can on getting published, writing book proposals, writing query letters, finding agents, etc..., etc...

Write a kick-ass query letter that will grab the agent with your first line!
