  • I have been a creator of stories much of my life. From the time I was three years old scribbling on note pads I always had a story to tell.  When it would thunderstorm outside, inside I was telling stories to my younger nephews and neices so they wouldn't be afraid of the thunder. When I was in high school the writer's prompts that the teacher tacked up on the board would be the beginning of a short story that the entire class envied. I wrote in study hall to pass time. I created a story similar to the Lion King when I was in high school. Although I never sold it to anyone, I did pass on a collection of short stories to a friend who said he would speak to a publisher..however my stories were lost in the shuffle of life. Nothing ever having been published.

At 39 years old I've had a story line in my head since from my freshman year in high school. It mulls about inside my brain and every time I try to write it down, writers block crashes in and absorbs anything I had. My own doubts, past influences, harsh cricisms from my own mother and I found my stories suddenly flawed. Not perfect. ( I am a perfectionist at heart.) I was weighted down by the words of one of my teachers who had said that "every story has already been written...) A family member who said I had better not waste my life writing stories, instead get a job and make something of myself.

Now, my mom has died, I met the man of my dreams, and both of my kids have been born. The writing bug is always there clawing at my mind. Littered with scripts of stories, outlines, plotlines, characters that never had a chance to be born onto paper. My husband wishes I would write one of my stories but the block continues to crush any hopes of writing. My inner critic is harsher than any critic out there. I'd love to write again. It was a part of who I am, that other part of me that has been missing so many years.

If coming here would help me find that old friend I would forever be grateful.

I don't write for money although it would be nice....I just write because it's in my blood to tell stories.  I need to regain my confidence and maybe I can find that writer that I once was. The same writer who could make up a small book of short stories during a history test. The same one who took my classmates to the brink and then completely over when the plot changed and plunged my hero into the rocks below. The one who could make a teacher cry with a Christmas story of a returning P.O.W. in a child's wish.

I'm Dott and I'm a closet writer. LOL! I have been writing stories down for years mainly for myself. and I recently allowed people to see some of my stuff. They loved the story lines but my writing needs to improve. especially punctuation.

I look forward to learning and sharing with you all.

    Thanks Dott.

You sound a lot like me. except when it came academics I fell short.LOL!  I can  take a seemingl ordinary situation and turn it into a story in my head. It is a great gift to have.

  • Hello Moms like me!

I am so glad to have found a group of moms who also have "A passion for the pen!" Writing is my first love and like many of you have found comfort in putting it to paper!

When I feel inspiration I start writing it down so I have several pieces in the works; I finally was able to pen point my first piece that I would like to release so I am putting my focus on that one!

I look forward from gaining any insight you guys have to offer and give my support in any way I can!

  • Dott038...Actually the only problem I had with writing in school was the use of my present future and past tenses...the teacher told me I'd mix them up a lot.

However imagination is strictly your own....punctuation comes in time *S*

  • Hi Everyone!

I'm so glad to find this forum!

I have written a novel and started looking for a publisher right away, then had to slow down and look instead for an agent. The agent process is very difficult and daunting.

I would suggest checking out a few websites:

Soyouwanna.com/publishabook - this is where I first started, and it gave me great advice

agentquery.com - great forum for posting chapters, pages and queries. Most of the folks on this site are professional and uplifting

www.sfwa.org/beware - has a great on-going list of agents and publishers who operate under questionable tactics

This is just a beginning - there are so many steps! I have become a regular viewer of every blog I can find written by agents, as well, to get a feel for what they are looking for in a query. I think I've finally figured one out!

I am actively looking for a reading/editing buddy - if you're good at it and interested, please let me know!

    Thanks everyone!

    Andrea

  •  Hello my name is Jessica and I'm currently going to school for Creative Writing at Longridge Writers Group. I tend to write about issues being ignored in this day and age.
