Is there any place in rockford where i can buy some things that will help zachery out? I need some special cups and silverware for him to help him eat and drink right.  He has apraxia and autism.  I looked on the " beyond play"  website, but i would like to see if there is a place locally that i can get these things from.   He can't drink from a straw yet, but can't quite drink from a cup.  Using utensils seem to be kinda hard since some of the toddler silverware just doesn't help him very good. We are still working on alot of his fine motor skills and his oral motor skills.  If anyone can help me that would be great!! If not, just bump please! thanks!!

Hey Sonja!  I can't think of anywhere off hand, but two organizations in the Rockford area would probably be able to help you.  I would call RAMP and the ARC of Illinois.  Look into those two, and tell them what you need.  I don't know if they'll have it readily available, but I bet they'd be able to find you a source pretty quickly.  The other thing I just thought of is to try is going to Easter Seals in Rockford.  I just thought of that.  Easter Seals in Rockford gives weighted blankets, etc., and I bet with their school, they'd have all that stuff.  HTH.

I don't think you need one, but it wouldn't hurt.  The only reason I remember this is when we were at that support group meeting at Heartland, one of the mom's there mentioned that Easter Seals was just giving these things to parents who went there and asked for them.  I really wish that I would have gone there before I left, as there are several things that Kyle could use.  (blanket, seat cushion, etc. etc. etc. lol)  I would either call there or just go by.  If they don't have it, I bet they'd be able to find someone who did.  Warning though - you may fall in love with their therapeutic day school for Zachery.  Let me know how it works out.  I'm in TN now of course, but I still check in on IL stuff, because I always hope I can help with my past experiences.

Hi Sonja!

I don't know about in Rockford, but there are places online that can get you what you need.  Try this page on my site:   http://www.rockfordautism.com/Helpful.htm    My first thought was the Therapy Shop, and Salt of the Earth, but there may be others, too.

Good luck!

Well i got a blanket from toni over at Easter Seals, and zachery loves it!!!! For the first time in how long, he slept though the night!!! He didn't come in my room at all! He even likes to sit with it on the couch.  I am soo thankful for the help that i have recieved over there! I also called RAMP and talked to zachery's therapist's about places that they might know of.  I got a catalog from the Therapy Shoppe and man i love their prices!! I am going to order some things out of there for zachery's oral motor issues.  RAMP told me that integrated home health services might have some things for his feeding issues.  He cannot drink from a cup yet, or a straw. Has trouble with utensils. ( some fine motor issues still going on ) I am hoping i can get it locally, but if i can't then i will order them.  I asked his speech therapist about using the flexi cups for him and she said to give it a try.  He has soo much trouble with blowing, and sucking.  He is cute when we try to get him to blow a bubble. He puts the wand by his nose and tries to blow from there!!  He certanitly has come a long way from where he was, and i know that there is still a long road to go.  I am forever grateful that i have met some wonderful people on here and through the services that i have been using for the last couple of years.   I thank you soo much for the help that you guys have given me!!!

It took Kyle a very long time to be able to blow bubbles from a bubble wand.  He would put the thing almost completely on his lips and almost spit through the wand - hence no bubble. LOL  He can do it now.  It does come with time.  He had a sippy cup for a long time too.  And if I remember correctly had a hard time learning to drink from a cup.  I can't remember a lot of the details.  And I know that straws were out for a while as it wouldn't make it all the way into his mouth and be swallowed, it would be spilled out.

He's doing great and you're doing great getting all this stuff for him!
