My Sil had this done so I said I would ask you guys if you could help wtih an answer.
"Anyone know anything about RAST antibody testing (IgE mediated) for
gluten? I was tested and showed a positive result, but I'm a little
confused - any information I can find either links me to wheat allergy
and gluten intolerance (which I know is not the same thing).. or I've
even run into info that says an allergy to gluten isn't even possible.
Just for a little background, I've been GF for a year and a half already
- I had this testing done along with the genetic testing (which was
negative). I also have multiple food allergies (also diagnosed with RAST
testing), seasonal allergies, and thyroiditis. Thanks"
And does anyone notice being so sensitive that even coming in contact with Gluten bothers them?
I hate those tests! I was just tested and was negative. HOWEVER....I have been through SO many tests since Jan 2011, I have lost 50 pounds this year! I needed to lose it, but losing it and not trying isn't a healthy way to lose it either. My doctor was dumb-founded at the negative result. I have a lot of the pre-disposed issues that people tend to have prior to Celiac. I currently have most of the symptoms of CD but tested negative. She told me to treat myself as if I have it, it's not going to hurt me in any way and if it makes me feel healthier....than keep it up. I am going for an endoscope Friday. I have had ulcers before, plus if there is anythign suspicious, they can biopsy it.
I have read that there are some people SO senstive that any cross contamination can set their symptoms off. I am not that bad and I am very thankful for that, God Bless those that have to deal with such a severe sensitivity.
Best of luck... I hope that you can get all of the answers you are in search of.
I was off of gluten for so long before they did the biopsy. My diagnosis was made with a blood test, but i had tested as allergic to wheat and milk years before the symptoms cropped up.
I am sensitive to the smallest amount of gluten. Gas, nausea and worse fromsimple cross contamination.
