My Dh had gall bladder surgery on the 22 of January. Two days later he took more pain meds than he should have...he thought (in his already medicated state) they were Tylenol. He tried to get up the next morning and couldn't walk. He fell and I had to call our son and son-in-law to come help him up and back to bed. He was talking crazy, thinking our son & son-in-law were ambulance drivers. He was completely loopy. I took him to the hospital where he stayed for three days to eliminate the possibility of a stroke. Thank God no stroke just an overdose of meds. It scared me out of 10 yrs of life but I have learned to not have his meds where he can reach them. Sometimes the meds will alter their minds a lot....expecially new meds.
You are absolutely right, Sharlene! Meds can be so dangerous, even for adults! Once, the hospital almost overdosed my hubby on dilaudid. At shift change, they gave him a dose, not realizing the nurse before had just given it to him!!! It was terrifying :(
Is he doing better now?
