I'm so angry

My husband cannot seem to grasp the fact that if he doesn't take care of himself, take his meds, go see the dr like he is supposed to he is going to die young. His heart is not going to handle the abuse he is giving to it. We have 2 very small children to raise and I don't know how I will handle it myself. I thought that him almost dying after his heart attack would wake him up. It hasn't. I don't know what else to do. I try to manage things for him but I can't do it anymore. I don't feel like I have any support and right now I really need it. We have a 2 year old and a 2 week old. I'm tired of being told that I'm overreacting. I watched him almost die when I was pregnant with my son. Why is it so hard for him to get it?

I wish I had some great answers for you.  I don't know why but the male of the species seems to see any type of medical need as weakness.  And weakness makes them less of a man.  Unfortunately there isn't much you can do to make him take care of himself.  Do you do a lot for him?  Like taking care of him, bringing him things?  Perhaps if you refused to do those things, then when he sees that he can't do things and says something about it you can tell him that if he took care of himself he could do things.  Otherwise you're not going to do it for him.   I don't know, maybe he needs a good dose of reality.  If he thinks he is so healthy then let him do for himself.

Anyway, I just want you to know that this group is here when you want to rant or cry or just chat.

That must be so frustrating and terrifying for you!!!  I'm so sorry that he isn't listening to your concerns.  Men aren't very bright when it comes to taking care of themselves.  I will keep you guys in my prayers!

And I agree with Kim. . . If he thinks he's so healthy, let him take care of himself.  He'll either start shaping up, or he'll admit he's not as well as he thinks and maybe listen more.
