Therapists Specializing in Adoption Issues.

Posted by   + Show Post

I was just asked how it was I found a therapist that specializes in adoption. I was lucky enough to have been referred by a therapist from my works EAS.
I thought it would be useful If there was a list of known adoption therapists. So I'll start it off and you guys can add to it as you find people and don't forget to add the state they practice in.

One thing to remember is that everyone in the adoption community knows each other so  if you don't see one in your city email one of them and ask if they know of anyone.

Also I know Nancy Verrier does phone counseling.

I'll start with her:

I've been hearing some very troubling things about Joe Soll especially from adoptees. So I'm not going to endorse or recommend him. Just be aware he exists and tread warily with him if you use him:

CUB would love people to volunteer to start groups in their own cities and would be fully supportive of such an endeavour. CUB has recently changed their bylaws to allow Adoptees to run support groups and the only requirement is being a CUB member for 6 months.

How do you feel about starting your own group?
Put something on Craigslist, or a free announcement in your local paper 'events'.
All you have to do sometimes is say "adoption" out loud - and they come out of the woodwork lol
There's so many articles and things available you could print off to talk about, it wouldn't be that hard. Denise- would CUB offer any guidance for opening a new group?

I went to support yesterday for the first time in probably 6-7 years. So good to see some of the older members and update each other. And to meet new members, and hear their stories.
17 years ago - I found this CUB group thanks to Joe Soll. I realized last night- I'm still not healed. But support is good for me.
