Hi, I'm Terri. I am actually not a weimaraner owner yet but we will be soon. :) i thought maybe i'd join in if you guys will let me and get some ideas on stuff. :) my husband is huge on getting one and although at first i was not sure i am totally excited about it now. we are looking to get a female puppy that can grow with our two boys who are 5 and 2 1/2. everyday i get more and more excited about getting one as well. i am looking forward to taking the dog to the park, out for walks, to the lake even. ;-)
We have to two weims and they are my babies. I have one cuddle bug and one is totally playful and hyper and stubborn as hell. My dogs don't like the water but I hope yours will...I had dreams of taking them to the creek to play and boy was I wrong they hated it. They are are very smart though. My girls were quick to train. Good luck and send pics in when you get them
If she doesn't take to the water, let me know. I had to work with my girl a LOT to get her comfortable with the water. It IS possible, just important to start during the first summer. :) When we first got her, she was TERRIFIED of the water, within a month, we had her jumping off the raft going after toys, and the next month after that we couldn't get her OUT of the water.
so i thought i'd update. ;-) we changed our minds on how we're gonna get a dog. originally we were gonna go through a breeder but instead we're gonna adopt one from the weim rescue site. we're getting a 4-5 year old dog that lives outside of kansas city. we're excited and thrilled! the girl we talked too is sending us some pictures as soon as she talks to the foster parents and gonna send the info on the dog. she said the dog would be perfect for us because it has been raised around kids evan and tj's age and around cats. :) i guess she is spoiled as well i guess and loves car rides! ;-) although she is a 90lb dog. :-/ i think she'll be perfect. :) and the best part we dont have to worry about training her because it's already done. she's house, leash, crate trained and knows the simple comands. :-)
