My son Kaleb is 6months and 1week and has been sick and they finally figured out that he had salmonella, so they have been treating him for that. He has been sick for 2 weeks well yesterday he got a new symptoms, a fever. It was 101 and then 102.2, so my question is at what temp is it dangerous for a baby? The dr on call did not seem worried at all, O and I forgot to mention that it was an hour after having Tylenol that it went to 102.2.

  • I would take him in to make sure it not another kind of infections. when my kids are that young they always go to the walk in clinic when they get fevers over 101.

  • well first i'm not sure this is a question for an OB nurse,, BUT

to answer the question (from my experience, no medical degree) i agree w the pp it could be an ear infection or something...

with babies and children i know they always ask you to look at the symptoms... is he cranky? eating? drinking? does he have tears is he having wet/poopie diapers? it is important he does not get dehydrated :)

even a fever of 103 or higher may not be anything other than trying to fight a bug, BUT me personally just in case i would take him in... expecially if he is acting like he doesn't feel well :)

hope he gets better, keep us posted

  • I am not an RN but my pediatrician said he wants to see us if the baby has a fever over 101 for more than 3 days. Hope that helps.
