so i have been a smoker for several years now and now that im pregnant everyone keeps telling me i need to quit. i know the side effects but for some reason i just cant. people are starting to make me feel like shit, to the point where i try to hid the fact that i am pregnant just so i can light one up. my friend keeps telling me im killing my baby which makes me feel worse. am i doing something wrong?
Don't listen to those who make you feel like shit.... while I don't condone smoking while prego, I'm not going to tell you shit like that... and if you are wanting to quit, I'll support you. I felt HORRIABLE the entire time while prego b/c I was up to almost 2 packs a day by the end.... I couldn't help it, I was craving like some women crave dirt... it had compleate hold of me and slowing down didn't work for long at all.
Seriously, its not good for you or your baby, and more risks are involved, but honestly I think they put more hype into smoking while prego than there actually is. Also, more babies are born healthy than not (from my research).
Nice friend, telling you that. I couldn't quit when I was pg either. Like Chaotic Rayne says, it's not the best thing and if you can quit, try, but if you can't don't hang around with the ones who are making you feeling crappy. I might even tell your friend, you're not going to talk to her because she says that.
Best wishes to you and yours.
I honestly wouldnt worry about it. Try and cut back if you can. I have smoked thru out this entire pregnancy-about a pack a day- and the baby is healthy. I smoked for with my first one and she is now almost 20 yrs old and beautiful and healthy as can be. She even is a smoker too.
I am in the same boat! Just start telling everyone its doctors orders that you don't quit due to stress levels and blood pressure! I had a blood pressure issue with my first DD so the doc told me not to quit, just to cut back. Now that i'm preggo again, I can't quit so I just used the old blood pressure excuse and it got most of them to leave me alone... GL
My two kids were in the NICU when born, one I smoked the second I didnt and the second one was waaay sicker, so I don't really know for sure but this time around I am trying to work more on the whole keeping the stress factor down while being pregnant, AI think that is more important and also I believe your medical history and that of the father of the baby is a big factor more so then smoking...
