HELLO ALL, I AM A 39 YEAR OLD GETTING READY TO HAVE A LAVH,RSO ON 11/11/09. JUST NEED A LITTLE INFO ON WHAT TO EXPECT AS FAR AS RECOVERY GOES. IF YOU LOOK AT MY PROFILE YOU WILL SEE I AM AN RN, BUT WOMENS HEALTH IS NOT MY FORTE LOL. NEVER HAD SURGERY BEFORE, ALTHOUGH I WAS A SURGICAL NURSE FOR SOME TIME, IRONIC HUH LOL. I AM USED TO DOING THINGS ON MY OWN, BUT MY DAD KEEPS CALLING SAYING I WILL NEED SOMEONE TO COME STAY WITH ME FOR A WHILE TO HELP OUT, WHAT DO YOU THINK. MY HUSBAND IS A SCHOOL TEACHER SO HE IS OFF WORK ON MY SURGERY DAY AND HIS PRINCIPAL HAS GIVEN HIM THAT THURSDAY AND FRIDAY OFF, SO HE WILL BE WITH ME THE FIRST FIVE DAYS. ALSO I MIGHT MENTION THAT MY GYNECOLOGIST SAID SHE MAY HAVE TO CONVERT TO A OPEN ABDOMINAL BECAUSE OF THE SIZE OF MY UTERUS, BUT SHE IS SHOOTING FOR THE LAVH. ANY INSIGHT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
What's an LAVH? Is that different from having an abdominal incision? That's the type I had - abdominal. So I can tell you about THAT recovery but not the other one most likely.
How old are your kids? Will you have to lift young ones? I know with my abdominal one that I thought I'd be okay to lift my son in his car seat (he's only a couple months old) after a few weeks but that is so not the case and I don't feel ready, that's for sure.
Sorry, I'm probably not being very helpful. :)

AN LAVH IS A LAPAROSCOPIC ASSISTED VAGINAL HYSTERECTOMY WHERE THEY MAKE A FEW ABDOMINAL INCICISIONS TO AIDE IN REMOVAL OF THE UTERUS THROUGH THE VAGINA, HOPEFULLY THIS PROCEDURE WILL WORK FOR ME BUT MY DR HAS HER DOUBTS. I AM A POOR SURGICAL CANDIDATE BECAUSE I HAVE HEART PROBLEMS AND DIABETES, AND WITH DIABETES YOUR HEALING CAN BE IMPAIRED, SO WE WERE TRYING TO DO THIS WITHOUT A LARGE ABDOMINAL INCICISON. I DONT HAVE ANY LITTLE ONES TO LIFT THANK GOD. :) HOW LONG SINCE YOUR SURGERY ?
My story is on here so I won't bore you with the details again. haha. But my surgery was about 2 weeks ago now. in another week I can drive and by December 1st I will finally be fully healed. It's been a LONG road but my case was not typical by any means.
I have my two month old son and then I have three step sons - 4, 6 and 13. so it's hard not to pick up the little guys and swing them around like I used to. :)
It's more recovery than I thought for mine, I'll say that much. But all I took for pain was tylenol with codeine. They offered me percocets (sp?) but I didn't want or need them. So hopefully yours won't be bad either. it sounds like a less invasive one than mine was. I hope you find some more info on here. Good luck to you.
