hot flashes?

I am 27 and had to have an emergency c-section/blood transfusion/hysterectomy five months ago. but even before that when I was about six months pregnant the hot flashes started. I get multiple waves of them every night...sometimes during the day too. And often I can't sleep afterwards..like tonight. I also get horrible cotton mouth with them. I am breastfeeding my baby so I do not want to take meds. but are there any remedies? and does it ever go away?
