so my little matthew is on cast number 4 well thats what it would be if he would stop kicking them off. yesterday we had to have them redone because he completely kicked one off and the other one had slipped down about an inch. well this evening i noticed that one of the new ones was already slipping down about half an inch. has anyone else had this problem? its getting pretty stressfull because here it is almost 3am and his cast is down about an inch and he tries to kick his feet and i know it hurts. there isnt enough space to put something inbetween his leg and the cast to stop it from hurting him. ugh im about ready to pull my hair out! i hope when i go in later today they get this problem taken care of i cant handle these sleepless nights of him crying because hes soo uncomfortable.
hun I can tell you that the cast isnt hurting him and it dont hurt when he kicks them off I had that problem with my son.... then the other problem I had is my son pulling his foot further into the cast.. my recommandation to you is find another ortho dr because once I found a dr who knew what they were doing I didnt have the kicking the cast off problem if u need help let me know u can send me a pvt message

You be missed lil man
My daughter is 6 month olds and she has has cast since she was 6 days old. We have been through several cast because my daughter has kicked them off. They have even tried to put above the knee and those came off. We are going for the next set of surgies in feb and will then have pins and fiberglass cast put on. It is very stressful with cast in general but adding having to get new ones makes it harder. My daughter kicked them off in the dr's office on the way out the door not 10 mins after getting them on.
Is your ortho putting thigh length casts on or short casts? They aren't supposed to be able to kick the casts off or the cast slip... I will tell you that is one of the red flags with casting. Have you contacted Dr. M in Iowa about this? We went through this with our first ortho before we really "knew" anything about the treatment of clubfeet, but that can potentially make the clubfeet worse than what it started out as.
If you are following the Ponseti method the casts should come up almost to his groin. If they are slipping off they are not doing it right. I think you need to get a second opinion I would think that a slipping cast could cause some discomfort and I know that if left on can make correction longer to accomplish. Maybe your son has a complex club foot. It takes a skilled ortho to cast those properly.
