My son had a mild case of club foot when he was born.  We just did stretching for the first 3 months but then it was determined he would need the braces but no casting.  He got the braces yesterday and he wont stop crying.  How long before he will get used to them?    None of us got any sleep last night.  We had to resort to wearing earplugs so we could hold him while he cried.

My son had casts for 4 weeks before getting the braces, but there was still a long adjustment period for sleeping.  It took him almost a week before he was sleeping normally again.  You just have to do the best you can to try and get him comfortable and get sleep when you can.  Before you know it the braces will just be normal for him.  Good luck!!

I have not heard of anyone going right into the brace before.  The brace will not achieve correction it will only hold the correction after the casting.  Where are you located?  What kind of brace are you using?

I am in Rochester New York.  He is using the Ponsetti brace.  The only reason I could think of as to why he wasn't casted because he has a positional club foot from in utero not the genetic kind and the foot is plyable and is able to be moved into the correct position.  We got the brace from the prothetics place Friday and have a appt with his actual orthopedic doctor this Wednesday.  He seems to be doing slightly better today.
