I went to my 20wk US yesterday and the tech went on and on about how perfect my baby boy was. I'm thinking great! Wooohoo! I have another perfect little boy on the way! The Doc comes in and tells me everything is great.....but, he has a clubbed right foot. WTH? So I cried all day yesterday. Since then I have called the pediatrician and have done a ton of research. Feeling much better today. Anyone else hear they have a clubbed foot? Has anyone else been through this that could give me the bright side?

Thanks! I'm new here.

Hi and welcome! :) We didn't find out our son had clubbed foot till he was born, 3.5 years ago. It was a huge shock, so knowing beforehand will definitely give you a leg up on things. We live in a small town and only one person in either mine or DH's family had clubbed foot...and this was years prior to our DS's birth. So, we didn't know much at all about it especially not about treatment. Needless to say we were steared in the wrong direction and went through 3 months of incorrect treatment before we finally traveled to Iowa. I can without a doubt say that was the best decision we have ever made. Logan's feet looked absolutely wonderful until late last year..but he had a very severe case of clubbed foot and has tendon issues that is requiring him to have the ATTT surgery this Sept. I would just say, breathe and know everything will be ok! Definitely make sure you are getting the right treatment, and if you have any questions about the treatment feel free to ask, we will help you to know whether it's right or not. Another thing is it will become so routine that you won't even think about it anymore. It will be like it's always been part of your everyday routine. The thought of it can be overwhelming and very scary, but you will look back and wonder why you ever looked at it like that. And the biggest thing is make sure to follow the bracing protocol to a "T". I hope to see more updates from you along the way! Just enjoy that baby when he arrives and don't dwell on what will be to come in the few weeks after he's born... It'll all be ok!!

I also found out at my 20 week u/s.  I was like you and freaked out...my hubby was wonderful about it...he helped me become comfortable with it.  We are on our last month of wearing the brace all the time and its like second nature around here.  Id say do some research and find a doc that knows what they are doing.

I agree with all of these ladies..my DH and I found out the day after our youngest daughter was born that it was club foot.. i didn't have time to do my research ( which I too reccommend), BBUT thankfully the pediatrician told me that she knew a dr that can fix it.. this ortho dr we have to fix the club ft is just FANTASTIC!!! she has been so attentive and wonderful... but do the research.. and like the other reply said.. make sure you find a dr who knows what he/she is doing.. my daughter has been through 2 surgeries and 10-11 casts.. the reason why is bc her ft just doesnt want to get straight.. not sll babies feet are like that.. some don't have to go through that much... i pray your baby doesn't.. you can add me as well on fb.... marie mcgoldrick.. any of you can

It's not too bad. My son is 3.3 years now and is finally done with all casting and braces. The good thing is that it can be corrected. My great grandfather and older brother had it also and while my great grandfather was disabled I only knew my brother had club feet from the pictures. We did not find out until birth. I am pregnant now though and wanting to check carefully during the ultrasound. My suggestion if you live in the u.s. Is to call your nearest Shriners . They are great and provide service free of charge.

I have a 210pm appointment today with my OB. I have a list of questions to ask him, also he is giving me the # to a Orthopedic surgeon.

Thanks for all the advice and I will let you know what I find out.

Make sure you get a doc that follows the ponseti method to a t. I recommend checking the ponseti website & check out a recommended/certified doctor if able. I've never regretted it.

Go the ponsieti way!! My son was in cast from day 11 - 2.5 months and then boots and bar 23 hours a day until 5 months and now he wears in 12 hours a day (do bed) until he's 4. (He's only 6.5 months) BUT we met another baby who is 7.5 months and he did NOT have his achillies cut after the 5th cast and they must have done something diefferent with the casts because he still has a curve in his foot and his boots are only angled at a 35 degree. My sons are angle at a 60 degree angle. You wouldn't even know my son was born with club feet and this little boy we met, you could tell something was wrong because there was still a bend in his foot. So again, get the casts, cut the achilles, and get the boots and bar. Don't do surgery. My friends brother has had many surgeries (he's now 20) and he still walks with pain, can't play sports because of the pain) Good Luck!!
