Been a very rough week.. I am 20 weeks now. Had my ultrasound on Tuesday..i was very excited about it.. to see if it was a boy or girl... its a girl. But they found problems. On leg is smaller than the other and she has a club foot. They also found spots on her heart. it went from being the best day to the worst day of my life. This is my first child.... its supposed to be perfect. Waiting the results of more tests... and according to the doctors once i have those results i can decide if i want to go through with the pregnancy. How do you make a desicion like that? They said her leg may never grow.... i have been crying non stop.... no time off left at my work so i have to be here. its horrible. Need some prayers coming my way :(

Questions, with club feet is it normal for one leg to be shorter?? Did your pregnancy involve heart issues??

Im so confused.

Hun.. There is no reason to  termnate the child cause of a club foot...  my son is my first Child he is 3yrs old now and was born with a clubfoot... And yes some kids with it do ave that leg shorter and it does grow just much slower my son's left leg is shorter and his left foot is smaller but once the baby is here you just do what you have to do.. My son didn't have any heart issues and hun the heart thing could go away at birth

Thank you. Did he have to go through through surgeries ect. I know thats probably a given. These doctors just scare the crap out of me with the things they say... like there may be a chance that its a "dead leg" and might not grow.

my son has had 2 operations on his foot but 16 total for other medical issues he was born with that didn't get diagnosed till after birth but it's going to be alright... The leg wont be a dead leg and even if it was there are medical devices such as a prostitc leg... that can be used don't let the drs talk you in to abortion...   Clubfeet are common more in boys than girls it's just how the baby is positioned in you unless you were taking Zoloft or anything for depression.. I was on Zoloft during my preg with my son and found out that the zoloft caused his clubfoot

Havent taken any medications at all throughout the pregnancy. Been doing things by the book. They wanted to put me on anti-depression medication at the begining of the pregnancy because i was having a rough time, but i chose not to. Im just still in the denial phase i guess. No one expects these things i know.... Its just crazy how reckless some people can be during pregnancy.... drinking doing drugs etc. and they have perfectly healthy babies.

Can I ask what other medical conditions your son had ( its ok if you dont want to go into it) just wondering if it was something common that went along with club foot.

Thank you for the support,

My son was born with Moebius syndrome his 6th and 7th cranial nerves didn't fully form it's a rare nuro disorder he can't blink nor can he smile alot of kids with it have clubfeet but it's not uncommon for kids born with it not to have clubfeet

No there is no test to determine it it's not genetic or anything like that just rare

My son was born with bilateral (both) complex clubfeet 3.5 years ago. He's a healthy kid. Runs, plays, just like any other child. I didn't know till he was born that he had clubfeet. He hasn't had any operations, just casting and his brace. Since he was born with both feet clubbed there isn't a difference in leg or foot size but I do know of a lot of people that's children with one clubbed foot do have that issue but it hasn't stopped them at all! We actually used Dr. Ponseti in Iowa which is the doctor that came up with the correction w/out surgery process for clubfoot. We were asked by his staff to participate in a study they are conducting to determine what causes clubfoot..at this point they believe it's genetic but can't narrow it down to anything specific. Don't beat yourself up..you didn't do anything wrong. That's still your baby girl and you will still love her all the same!! She will be a little fighter! These kids will surprise you with all they can do.. They are strong little souls and I believe they all should have a chance to show just how strong they are! I will be praying for you!!

I am so sorry for both of you.. I send hugs and prayers your way....

my youngest was born with club foot... it was so severe.. she's had 2 different surgeries, 10-11 casts, the shoes with the bar, 2 different pairs of reverse last shoes, 2 different AFO boots, and nothing has straightened her foot competely yet.. she's on her 2nd boot now.. i'm hoping it'll work bc if not, she'll have to have a 3rd sugery.. THE ONLY reason nothing has FULLY worked is bc she makes her foot turn back in every time it seems to start getting straight...and her right leg (the leg with the clubfoot) is a half inch shorter than her left leg.. she limps a little when she walks.. and her right foot is a little difference in size...

this is a very difficult process, but with the right treatment, it'll be ok and your baby will be too... PLEASE DON'T TERMINATE THE PREGNANCY... and as far as the heart condition, it'll probably heal itself.. if not, technology nowadays is so amazong...

I AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS POST.. CHILDREN WITH CLUBFEET ARE SOME AMAZINGLY SPECIAL CHILDREN.. MY DAUGHTER HAS **NOT** LET HER FOOT STOP HER FROM WALKING AND RUNNING AND PLAYING.. SHE IS SO AMAZING.. I LOVE HER SO MUCH AND YOU WILL LOVE YOUR BABY AS WELL.. NO MATTER WHAT IS WRONG OR NOT WRONG...

Im just worried because the doctors said it could be part of the brain that is telling that foot not to grow.... or loss of blood flow. I wish they could just give you a straight answer everything is "There is a Chance" ... there is a chance the leg may never grow... there is a chance that it could be brain damage .. its so hard...
