Im 34 weeks, I have never gone past 36 and shrieners is telling me they wont do casts untill hes considerd full term??? this doesnt make ANY sense to me ! Everything I read says to get the casts asap and shrieners is going to make me wait ? They said anywhere from the first 2-3 weeks is fine....its not fine to me i want it done a couple days after. I read the sooner its done the less likely for surgery.

So when did your child get the castings done?????

He was 2 weeks only because the doctor's wife just had a baby and he was on maternity leave. They wanted him to be seen within a week. Good luck!

2-3 weeks after he is born is completely fine. He doesn't need to be casted asap. I was even told by Logan's dr (Ponseti) that he recommends at least waiting 2 weeks after birth so that you can bond with your baby and get a routine going, especially if you breastfeed.

This is wonderful to read.  Thank you.  I was hoping that we would be able to wait just a little bit for this exact reason.  Breastfeeding is very important to me and I'd love to make sure it's going smoothly before we cast.

1 mom liked this

11 days. A few weeks does not increase the chances of surgery, they are still very young and bendy:-)

reagan didnt get her first set of cast until she was 5 weeks....our doc doesnt do the procedure in office they do it at the local childrens hospital so he wanted to wait cuz they wont do it until they are 50 weeks gestational age here. So we decided to wait to cast so that she wouldnt have to wear a cast for longer than she needed it.

A little while doesnt hurt...im sure it will go well...good luck
