Hi JaclynLeigh :)
My son John was born on May 24. We didn't know until his birth that there were any problems, but he came out with feet that look exactly like Dawson's first pictures. We had his first set of casts put on today. I have a few questions, if you don't mind.
One of my chief concerns is breastfeeding. Is it possible while they're wearing the shoes with the bar? It just looks like it would be impossible to hold the baby and nurse while he's wearing it. Also, what about bathing? Do you get to remove the shoes once in a while to give baths? These two things were big bonding times for me with my other three kids and I really want to be able to do them with my beautiful John.
Finally, did Dawson have to have the tenotomy? I'm so worried about John having to have it. I went through surgery when my firstborn was four months old and it scared me to death! Does Dawson have to wear the shoes until he's four or five years old? How do they affect him when he does wear them?
Please forgive me if I'm pestering. I'm just getting started on this journey and I'm really downhearted and scared about the whole thing. I was totally unprepared for any of this. The pictures you posted give me some hope, but I'd like to find out more about the nursing issues. Will I still be able to breastfeed when he's in the brace?
hey there!! yes it is possible to breastfeed with the braces on. i did it!! :) you will get to take the shoes off for an hr a day for the first 3 months in the shoes to give them a bath! i cried when i gave him his first bath! i was SSOO excited!! lol! no he didnt need the tenotomy. i think he has to wear them for 5 yrs not sure and when he is wearin them it doesnt bother him. he is now pullin his legs up in the air and grabs his shoes now. its so cute!! youre not pestering me lol i was jus like you 5 months ago! i jus so excited that were done wit the casts and didnt need the surgery and got in the braces and now down from wearin them 23/7 to 16/7! good luck mama! need anythin else jus ask!!
