Has anyone watched the new channel Planet Green?  It used to be a Discovery channel, but they just changed to an all green channel, and it's great.  Every show (including diy shows) are green!  Even the commercials are for green products.  It's pretty cool.  I know Verizon carries it, but I'm not sure who else does.  We just switched to verizon two weeks ago, and we didn't have it before.  You can probably google Discover Planet Green or something like that.

Last night there was a special on Greensburg Kansas.  If you haven't heard their story, you should look it up.  They got hit by a tornado that literally took out every single home and building in their town.  They decided to rebuild the town as a "green town."  It's a cool story.

Comcast has it, but we don't get it. It is On Demand, though, so I've watched a couple things on that. If we did get it, I'd probably have it on a good part of the day...who knows. LOL

I was thinking everyone in America with any cable must be getting it, since we have it.  And we have the most basic cable around.  So basic, you can't order it any more.  LOL

We saw that special on Greensburg, KS.  I thought it was facsinating.  And a MUCH better idea than people who are leveling perfectly good traditional homes to RE-build GREEN houses in there place.  What an ANTI-recycling green thing to do.  Let's make what is standing and functional as green as possible before taking down to rebuild.  But HERE (Greensburg) is an opportunity for a community to make more out of a tragedy.  I think it is an amazing concept and a crazy journey.  I am praying for the project!

Thanks for bringing this topic up!

I am so addicted to this channel.  I usually don't have the tv on, but I'm learning so much.  The show wasted is the best and helps see little things that you may not even think about that are using up energy.

For example:  I had no idea that just by leaving the tv or radio plugged in AND TURNED OFF you are using a lot of energy.  They said you can cut your energy down 25% if you just unplug or turn your power strip off when not using those.  WOW!!!  I just try to make sure everything is turned off, but I've never thought about unplugging.

Misty,

I have been wondering about this unplugging idea.  Is it just the items that have clocks and things on a display?  That would make SO much sense  . . . but the tv that is simply off when it is off.  It isn't on a standby mode.  Perhaps fancy tv's have a standby mode?  I don't know.  OR . . . is it like the toaster that drains some energy all the time?  I do unplugg the toaster, the blender, the coffee maker.  We don't unplug the microwave.  Or any other electronics with clocks on them.  It would be annoying to reset them or have them flashing all the time.  LOL

Anyone else with opinions or facts or a resource for this info?  Is there a website anyone has found with this info . . . more of an explanation I mean.

Thanks for this post!

It said any clock or radio or cell phone charger.  I had heard that a cell charger can drain the battery on a car if left plugged in, so I guess it's the same idea.  Somehow it is still using up energy.  They said to either unplug them or have them set up on a power strip where you can turn it off.
