My name is Veronica and my baby Sophie is only four months old. When she was born she had really dry skin but we thought that it was the typical peeling process that babies go through. When she was about three weeks old she had a flare up and after a month and a half it went somewhat. At her two month well child check up the doctor told us that she had eczema and gave us some samples of Atopoclair which worked somewhat but as it was almost gone she got another flair up. This time the doctor gave us Triamcinolone Acetonide which I just got literally a few hours ago. (Hopefully it will work.) My heart breaks seeing my poor darling suffering and scratching herself all the time. (I put socks on her hands and now she's learned to pull them off. She's a little Houdini) The eczema is on her cheeks and everyone tells me she has very rosie cheeks. (I just clench my jaw and let them know it's eczema) First time mom, living away from family and in need of all the help I can find.

My name is Kathryn. I have two sons. My oldest Nathan has mild eczema. He only has a spot on his leg. Zachary, my youngest, was finally diagnosed with it at seven months old. I kept telling his doctor that something was wrong. As a newborn, he would dig at his head. As he got older, he was digging at his face along with his head. Now, it's on his thighs, upper arms, back, belly, behind his ears, and really bad on his face and head. Well, his ped. passed away in Oct. so we had to find a new doctor. We found Dr. Webb. He took one look at Zach and said he had eczema. He presciped a cream and It's been a world of difference. Now, we are in the process of finding out what causes his flare ups. I'm having a hard time dealing with this. I feel so bad for my baby boy.

I've dealt with a skin condition myself (vitiligo). The comments from people can be cruel. I didn't want my babies to have to deal with something like this. I've already had people asking me why his face is red/ scratched.

Oh well, I'm glad I found this group. I've got a lot of questions and who better to ask than someone else that is going through it.

Hi! Im Kim and my son who is 6 months old. has eczema. Its not really bad but bad enough for everyone to ask me what that is. When my son ended up with nasal congestion and a ear ache about couple weeks ago. His pedetrician put him on amoxicillin for his ear ache. Mistersly when he started on amoxicillin   the eczema disappeared. Until I had to stop his amoxicillin because of the diarrhea it was giving him then the spots came back. Now Im putting on cortizone on him to help with the redness and the itching that is causing my son to scratch it. If anyone needs to talk or vent  Im hear to listen.

Hi, my name is Adrienne and I'm 26. I am the sahm of two boys. My youngest, Aaron-4, is the one who has eczema. Over the past year I have noticed that he had little red bumps on his butt and was always scratching. I thought it was just dry skin and would put lotion on it and give him benadryl occasionally at night. Recently it has spread and is now all over his butt, on his sides and back, on the inside of his elbows and behind his knees and he has a few bumps on his cheeks and shoulders. It has been getting really red and he was scratching non-stop. I started researching it online and decided it was probably eczema. My mom, who had it as a child, didn't think it was, so I took him to the dr a few days ago. The dr told me it was eczema, but not full-blown yet(I'm pretty scared of how much worse it can get since it looks so horrible now!). He gave me a print out and told me to apply hydro-cortisone up to 3xs a day and use either Vaseline or Crisco on it after his bath to lock in the moisture. I refuse to use Crisco on my child, so I am doing the Vaseline and am already seeing a huge improvement! The only thing I was wondering about was the print out said NOT to use Vaseline or Crisco, so which should I trust, my dr. or the paper he gave me?

Hi KristaB

My name is Mary Jane.   I don't have your traditional children with two legs, mine are more the 4 footed variety although technically I do have two cockatoo's and they do have two legs.   I joined CafeMom for two reasons the cool SweetPeads and secondly I wanted to be able to chat with a group of adults that actually can have a conversation.

I work full time and have a new home-based business.  Trying to get some of that financial freedom going.

Well this was quick...nice to meet you.  Your going to meet some nice people on here.

Hello everyone.  I'm April and a mom of 3.  My youngest, 19 months,  has eczema and was diagnosed with it at a few months old.  I myself have it but it has seem to get better with age, thank goodness.  We have yet to find the tiggors for his eczema.  I've tried looking at foods and weather conditions and such but nothing yet.  It seems so random.

Hi Krista,

My daughter Taylor has had eczema since she was a baby and is now 8 years old.  Mostly behind the ears (contact dermititis like me) and in bends of her elbows and behind her knees.  She can't stop scratching when its really bad and I make her wear gloves.  Keeping her clean and using hypoallergenic Aveeno products (oat bath, lotion) and Eucerin lotion have worked best.  When she stayed with my in-laws for a week last summer (they live on a lake in Hot Springs, Arkansas) she came back with spots all over her!  It wasn't poison ivy or oak or bug bites...some, but that wasn't entirely it.  It looked like chicken pox and was on her trunk, back, behind her knees and inside elbows.  I took her to the Children's Mercy ER because she was hurting so bad and they couldn't figure out if it was dermatitis, an allergic reaction to something, true eczema or what!  Gave us antibiotics and 1.5% cortisone and said if the cortisone made it worse to stop using it and the antibiotics were the right choice.  The cortisone helped so that was what we kept using.  Crazy.

My 5 year old doesn't have any skin problems Thank God.

Oh, I'm Jody.  36, work part-time as a school bus driver.  Married (going on 10 years this August) and have had Rheumatoid Arthritis for 18 years.

I joined this group recently and I erred in not introducing myself here.  Sorry!

I am 38yrs old and a SAHM of two great (adopted) children.  Erin is 11 and Steven is 5.

Just a week ago Steven came down with a rash on his back.  I took him to the Dr. (a fill-in for our regular pediatrician) and he said it is eczema.  He was surprised to hear that Steven never had a problem with it until now (most are diagnosed as infants apparently).  He said that it would likely get worse before getting better.  Boy was he right!  I have been sick over this - crying for my boy.  :(
We have a prescription for Triamcinoone Cream (steroid?), and also Eucerin Moisturizing Creme.  Both seem to help, but Steven hates creams, lotions, etc. of any kind.  It's hard to get him to let me put it on.  I have been giving him a Benadryl before bed to help with the itch and to help him sleep.

The rash has moved from his back to his chest, up his neck and cheeks.  He has it now on his forehead and down his arms and legs - BUT...so far in these areas it's just the white bumps that you can see and feel, but they'r not (so far) red or particularly itchy.

I am dumbfounded about why Steven would break out in this now at this time of his life?  The only thing different in our lives now is the cold winter weather (Dr.said this is what brought it out).  Also, Steven had Scarlet Fever in January (I've read that bacteria or viral illnesses sometimes bring eczema out - true?).  We also had our 15yr old dog put down 2 days before this rash started (can a 5yr old have stress bad enough to bring eczema out?).

I have a million questions, and am desperately seeking answers and relief for my son.  I'm so glad to have found this place.  Thanks for listening.

Laura (married for almost 19 years!)
