Thumb-sucking...will it ever end?

Just wondering if anyone else's kids still suck their thumb? I've asked the doctor every year at her appointment, and he says not to worry about it. I'm trying not to, but my daughter is going to start pre-school next fall, and I think it would be nice if she could be done with it before she turns 4. Any thoughts on how to get her to quit or should I just leave it for now?

Thanks!

My daughter sucked her thumb when she was a newborn but her Grandma and Dad pulled it out everytime they walked past. Broke that habit very quickly. My sister is two and she was chewing her fingers so badly when she was teething that her fingertips were black from the bruising. My mom put some stuff on her fingers...I forgot what it is called but it tastes bad and discourages thumb sucking. Sorry I don't have any other ideas...good luck.
