I am getting ready to have my third child and I really want to breast feed this time. I tried it with my first and my nipples are REALLY inverted and he was a fat little guy that really wanted to eat. I wore the nipple sheilds after he was born and saw the specialist my midwife suggested and nothing was helping. I think since he was myfirst that made it way more stressfull to have a hungrey baby and not being able to get him to latch on just drove me to tears. SO finally we just gave up.
So with my daughter I did not even try.
But now I am a baby expert. LOL But I am still not a breastfeeding expert. I could use any tips or advice. My midwife is going to have me start wearing the nipple sheilds the last month of my pregnancy in hopes that that will help.

Hun, I have been nursing for 3 yrs as of next month.  I did my daughter for 17 months and took a 3 month break she weened herself..then I have been nursing my son now for 14 month.
I have never experienced what your going through.   My advise is stay with it.  I know it can be crazy  and make moms upset.  Babies where born knowing how to nurse it's the most natural thing.  Your child will get the hang of it.  It may take a couple weeks , just keep with it.  I never say give a bottle unless you have too.  You could always pump milk and give in a bottle between trying to nurse.  I have never given my kids formula only cause later in life it can really hurt some children.
101 reasons to Breastfeed...great site for reasons why to nurse & affects of formula.  Also..in the cafe mom hot list they just posted a thing about only using powdered formula as the plastic bottles and baby bottles that are plastics have a chemical in them that can damage a baby later in life.  So please read up on things.
If I was you.  like I said I would try to nurse First...If you can't latch on I would pump and store breast milk so the baby is gonna go hungry.  But I would always try to nurse first at every feeding before giving a bottle of breast milk.  Also there area few breastfeeding groups on here like boobies for babies or proud public breastfeeding.  You can join to get more advise.
Good Luck!!!

tell the nurse in the hospital that you WANT to nurse the baby, and have her get someone in there from le leche legue. Keep trying, and it is going to hurt for the first couple of weeks but that goes away. I also had inverted nipples and it took a little while for baby to get the "hang"- a small pun intended- of it. But I nursed both of mine for ever, my DD was 2 when she quit, and my DS was 18 months so it does get better and eaiser. Good luck sweets!

I've only been nursing for a couple weeks, but  those nipple shields saved my life. When my breasts became engorged, she couldn't latch, so I've been using those and they are great. I had to see the lactation specialist too, she said you can use them as long as you need really, good luck on breastfeeding this time.

I had the same problem with my first son. I called a lactation consultant & she came over & helped me out so much I used the nipple sheilds & also if you use a breastpump it can pull your nipples out. I ended up nursing my son for 14 months so I had much success, now I've been nursing my second for 5 months. I would definately call a lactation consultant if you have any problems they can really be life savers.

I had the SAME problem! He's 6 months now, and I tried for the 1st month. I didn't have ANY support, and no one ever told me (until it was too late) that it's A LOT of work! Get a cheerleader, girl! I hope that it works out for you! Best of luck <3
