My 9 year old DD just finished her first season of softball. ( She played soccer for the last 5 seasons.) Did well. Even hit the ball! Was so excited when she got her first RBI, Then a single. Made her day when she got double. Season ended in May. So we thought. Her coach asked her to play on the tournament team. Ok. Little did we know her two days of an hour and half practice would turn into 4 nights for over 2 hours per night. Just found out she will play 3 games on sat. then we will find out after the results of sat how many games they will play on Sunday.
So proud of her. I guess this is what most parents of athletic kids do. Spend most nights on the field and all weekend on a field. I am game if she is...
Any suggestions for quick, healthy, good dinners and what do I need to know about spending a FULL day at the softball field??
My DD softball team lost the first two games and some how ranked 9th out of ten. They won the first of the elimination games. in over time!!!! My DD did great. Hit the ball every time. Scored three times!!!
However thier fourth game was againist the 1st place team...All i can say is it was not a shut out.... they were sooo tall some of our girls thought they were 12 or 13. ha ha.
Still don't see how or why they would put 10th vs 7th, 8 vs 9, then 2nd place winner of 7/10 and 1st place team place againist winner of 8/9 while 3 vs 6 and 4th vs 5th place team. Then the winners of those 4 games move on and play one another. the first place vs second place to declare winner....
The whole weekend was a learning experience for my whole family. we all had fun. my DD wants to do it again. but hopes they win more. lol
congrats on your daughter's softball tournment!!!!!!!!
I do understand how you feel about the time spent at practice. My daughter is 10 yrs. She has been playing softball for 3 1/2 yrs. She has been on a tournment team for almost a year and it is fun, but exhausting at times. She has practice 2 times per week for 2 1/2 - 3 hrs then has hitting lessons once a week for 1 1/2 hrs. She loves it . Anyway for tournments, I have a check list that I use to make sure that everything is packed and that nothing is forgotten. Like you, we are on the fields all day saturday and most of the day sunday. The main thing that I always bring is a rolling cooler w/ ice and drinks, a second rolling cooler filled w/ food & snacks, a small insulated bag w/ pedia- sure and fruit on ice (for my daughter in the dugout), a small backpack w/ tylenol, wipes sunscreen, etc ( it looks like small drug store) folding chairs/staduim seats, etc. We usually travel far from home so all of the parents try to bring everything. We live in Texas, so nothing is ever just down the street. During the week dinner is always a problem, so I do easy stuff . We have a sandwich night, we eat out once a week, I also look online for meals in less than 30 mins. Also ordering groceries online for pick up or having them delivered also helps alot. Hang in there is gets easier as you go along . congrats again!
Hello! So glad that i found this group! And wecome to the exciting world of tournament sports! My dd is 10 and has been playing softball since she was 5 so this is her 6th season. She was one of the starting pitchers on her softball team last year and they came in #1 in the league. She wanted to do the tournament team after regualr season, but it would conflict with our sons football season. We did however do a couple tournaments in the last regular season and they did well. I think pp named off everything that you will need quite nicely! We have younger kids so we always have to pack extra clothes and sleeping gear for when they get tired or spill something on themselves. We will be getting our dd set up with pitching lessons again this year and she is doing great at hitting so far. I hope that you continue to have a great season!
Oh yeah, for practice nights which will be running every weeknight for us now since son is still in wrestling season and dd is finishing up her basketball season along with having started her softball season, i make dinner early while the kids are doing homework and we eat before we leave for practice. That way they have fuel to burn and they can relax for a little bit when they get home and get ready for bed. During our summer sports, sometimes i will pre-make our dinners and we will all sit down for a late dinner when we get home.
