So we're going to a football game Saturday and we are going to do some tailgating.  I don't want to do the same old boring hot dogs and burgers.  Any ideas?  TIA

  • We usually grill shrimp or chicken kebobs for a change.  We've also marinated a london broil & grilled it there (used a southwest marinade & took taco/burrito fixings)  A little messier than burgers/dogs but was a huge hit

  • Oohh! I love tailgating! We have a ton of things we've tried.

    • bratwurst in beer (you can either marinate them the day before, or boil them on the grill)
    • steak or chicken kebobs
    • grilled chicken legs (I usually do a lemon pepper or southwest rub on them )
    • grilled pineapple rings (no marinade necessary, the juices will carmalize)
    • Thick slices of ham on the grill (brings out a smoky flavor
    • large button mushrooms in bbq sauce on kebobs
    • ribs - any style (pre-boil them if you aren't tailgating long then just throw them on the grill to put the heat into them and slap on some sauce!)
    • If you have lots of time, we've smoked or fried turkeys out there too

    And don't forget the sides!

    • Potatoe salad
    • cole slaw
    • baked beans
    • brunswick stew
    • chili
    • raw veggie trays

  • we go to the Raiders/Chiefs game every year and this is what we take

brisket....my dad will cook it a day or two beforehand and shred it for sammiches

ribs...my dad usually just stops at this really good bbq joint on the way and picks up a slab, and with it he'll grab some baked beans and coleslaw too

chicken wings...the guy that usually makes them brings a grill and marinates them for like 3-4 days and then grills them.  this year my brother did the wings and he brought his turkey fryer and made em in that.

brownies..my grandma always made brownies for the game, and by the time we got to them from how everything was situated in the car they would pretty much be crumbs.  She passed 9 years ago and we still do the brownies it feels like she's there with us in a way.

chips, pop, beer, dip, one year my brother brought a generator and my SIL brought her blender and we mixed margaritas.  Some of our friends that go to the game with us are Mexicans and they usually bring homemade tamales.  That's all I can really think of right now.
