Hi,
I've been researching homeschooling since before my husband and I were even pregnant. Now I have a beautiful 2 year old daughter and a newborn son who I fully intend to homeschool since we have the opportunity to enrich their education with the travel we do being a military family. We are currently in Japan for our 5th year and loving it!
My daughter is waht some would call strong hearted. She's independent, self-sufficient and very opinionated. (2 going on 30 it seems, just like I was at that age). I am trying to figure out the best "method" of parenting and teaching her based on her personality. How do you teach a child to be teachable? How do you train their attention span or their receptiveness to instruction?
I think Charlotte Mason with a dash of Classical education and unschooling is most likely going to be what works best for us but I'd like to know any tricks of the trade so-to-speak for moms who can captivate their audience!
My boys are both strong willed. They did best with workbook style. They are more self taught than teacher led. They work at their speed and I help where they do not understand. Try this website. It ask you questions about your teaching style and you child's learning style and helps find a curr. that suits you both. http://homeedexpert.com/nav.aspx
Our best times, no matter what curriculum we use or what we are doing is quite frankly when I'm enthused and enjoying what we are doing together. No matter what, when, how long, how difficult, etc... as long as I'm excited and having fun... they retain at least 70% more of the material, they are happy themselves, and they look forward to more.
