Where you a vegetarian when you were pregnant? And did you crave meat?
As for myself, I'm finding that at first I was repulsed by meat, and now I crave cheeseburgers and ribs and shrimp and General Tso's Chicken..... <sigh>
Any advice or experiences to share?

I went through this! I tried pretending that the port. burgers I would eat were big fat cheeseburgers...didn't work. I eventually gave into my craving once a week and blamed the baby. I also ate carrots dipped in chocolate ice cream which I still can't explain! Good luck!

I was NOT a vegetarian when I was pregnant, but my gross-out factor where meat is concerned DID start right around then. "Mmmm...charred animal muscle between my teeth" with a little meat juice dripping down the chin. Yuck yuck yuck.

Yes, I craved meat so bad I'd have gone out and shot my own. I did then what I do now (I still get a craving now and again) and just ate a lot more beans, spinach, (never sure if it's the protein or the iron my body needs) nuts, etc. Normal people could eat eggs but I detest them. Dairy is always my best friend as I am NOT vegan so I eat more of that when I am craving.

I've heard of moms-to-be craving meat. I never did, just lots of Mexican food and mint chocolate chip ice cream (both of which are regular visitors in my belly!). How long have you been veg? I'd been on the wagon for a decade when we got pregnant so I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not eating it. I'm totally fascinated by this!

am i the only member of this group that's NOT a veggie? (although i have to admit the smell of meat cooking made me sick while i was preg.) at the risk of appaling all of you fine people i need to say that i don't think it's wrong to eat meat. it's natural - animals eat each other. and i'm looking foreward to providing nutrition to the worms and bugs who eat my body when i'm done living this life. it all moves in circles and i feel like not eating meat would disconnect me from that. (plus - i'm sorry - but some animals taste reeaally good)

Hey, I'm totally with you sister-friend. I am a veggie but only because I OD'd on meat as a child. Grew up on a farm with meat three times a day everyday and meat and cheese for snacks. But I did grow up on a farm and I firmly believe that some animals (animals that can put their tongues up their noses and animals who drown in the rain especially) are meant to be eaten. My husband and kids all eat meat and I have no problem fixing it for them. I take quite a bit of pride in the fact that I make a MEAN prime rib roast even though I've never actually eaten it.
I do rescue horses though so if you're eating equus please keep it to yourself.

No your not the only one, I'm not either. I also couldn't stand meat in my second pregnancy, my mom would cook hamburgers and I would get sick from the smell.

Quoting Hippiemama98:I don't think it's wrong to eat meat either, I actually prefer the taste and texture of veg food. I didn't make the desicion out of ethics, or even health.. It was just a natural progression for me.. and after a thousand tiny steps toward vegetarianism, I gave meat up all together.

You know, until now.... Ahem.. I'm making a ham for dinner... lol.
I'm not sure if I'll go back to veg after I deliver the baby, or keep being an omnivore. Time will tell. :)

Hehe...no, i'm not in it for the "save the animals" cause. I'm in it because I started to realize that the idea of dead animal muscles and juices in between my teeth was just...grossing me out. I don't know why. As such, and as kind of a science experiment, i decided to be a veggie for the month of August...you know, see what changes it makes in my body. Will I lose weight? Will I have no BO even after 2 days without a shower? Will it make me taste different during cunnilingus? (Sorry, prolly TMI). I've noticed in the last month that I actually really like being a vegetarian. I still eat fish and seafood, but other than that, I'm ok with not eating the rest. The problem lies in the fact that my husband has said he'd support me through August, but not beyond, and as he's the cook.....uh oh.
