Something I never heard of before was fly strike. What it can do to a family pet is not only devastating but disgusting. If your pet rabbit, dog, anything has any poop or wettness and warmth on their body, a fly will land, lay an egg and maggots will start growing and eating the poo or warm, moist area. They will eat into your pet!! They will go into your pet's hiney and eat them from the inside out!! Please read up on this or watch your bunny's rear for packed poo, wetness please investigate for any sign of bloating or watch for any diarreah or maggots. I can't believe this! It happened to one of our foster dogs...it's unbelievably devastating. This hot weather plus rain just doesn't help. My bunnies are either inside thankfully or in a dry clean cage away from poo...our dogs are inside alot . Our foster dog had runny stools and I bathed her three times in one week even!! It's not something that's easy to stop apparently. I was so upset & I read up on it. I couldn't have known...I didnt' know to keep her inside when she has loose stools because of the heat and flies outside...how they'd react to her. It took me many nights now to get past what happened.
Just a small amount of runny stools or warm wetness around the fur will give the right conditions for maggots to thrive....
just wanted to let you know...
