Does anyone use the workboxes program? I hear that it can be done with preschoolers and I'm thinking about it...But I don't understand how to train them to not tear into the boxes out of order. I don't even know if that question made sense...
Help?

Great blog that I refer to her for ideas daily - her daughter (a preschooler) uses workboxes. I plan to begin using them with my 3yr old and 4yr old.
Made perfect sense to me. I used it when my daughter turned four. I told her from the start that she isn't to touch the boxes outside of "school" time and then just trained her to do them one at a time. She already knew how to count, so I used numbers on the front as a visual guide. Sometimes she really wanted to jump ahead, well, ok, a lot of time. I just kept insisting that she had to finish the other boxes before she could go to the next. She finally fell into a routine, but she would still want them out of order...and I just kept reminding her. I think it works well.
I just joined the group b/c I had an idea like this and a mom in another homeschool group said to check out the preschool group. Glad I did. I didn't really have any clarity to my workbox idea just yet, but I got lots of great references from a few of the other posts. I have lots to read about and hopefully my idea works for my four year old and two year old. I am looking to change boring workBOOK method into a workBOX method. I am a huge believer in learning-through-play, so I hope this works...once I figure out where I'm going with it. lol!
They work well with my 4.5 yo dd, we started when she was 3. It works wonders with her. She doesn't tear into them and is pretty good about staying in order. Once in a while she will try to barter with order and I will give in unless there is a good reason for the order ;)

i like the work box idea but i think i will have it set up a box for each day of the week with math, sience, reading craft ect. this way i dont have to fill the box each day i can do it once a week. then in the morning go pull the box for that day.
This is what we always did. The kids would grab their Monday box, and if they didn't finish everything then it would get added to the Tuesday box....I have a couple of regular boxes - mostly for math & one that has letter flash cards to make their word of the day......

i put stuff out in a set of boxes on a specific shelf that she can grab if she wants but it is not a must do thing. i put worksheets or coloring pages, stuff like that she does not need me for in them. when she does them i just replace the activities with new ones.
Anyone care to share picture? I am a very visual learner. Thanks!
