Hey moms,

I have a question, how do you teach a two year old the alphabet? Do you do uppercase first? Do you teach upper and lowercase together?

What is the best method for teaching the alphabet?

Thanks,

Leslie

starfall.com and abc blocks and puzzles worked best for us.

I started on uppercase - it seemed to make lowercase easier for us.

Mine learned them all together.  I second the starfall.com and puzzles, also Dr. Seuss's ABC's.

We have several alphabet books my daughter loves to read.  We also have a set of alphabet magnets  to play with/manipulate on the refridgerator.  Puzzles, www.starfall.com, and flashcards also worked for us.

I mostly focused on uppercase first but I also did lower case at the same time so when we really focused on loer case it as easy and fast.

I did use starfall.com a little but the one that really helped us was

Also we would o outside and we would draw with chalk on the driveway. I would draw the letters and quiz her on them and if she didnt know or ot it wron, I would excitedly say the correct letter. She cauht on fast and in no time was sayin the letters correctly. I would also take index cards and permanant marker and write letters on individual cards and let her play with them. And many other hands on activities. with the chalk, she loved watchin me, she would brin me different colors and had so much fun ith it. She would even start tracin my letters.

Thats how we started the alphabet. we also would watch videos on youtube, which she loved.

We started with upcase.  - We used the Leapfrog fridge magnets as one part of it.  My older two would leave messages on the fridge with the letters... It went great up until our fridge died and the new one isn't magnetic... Not sure what it is made of (Where the ice maker is things with stick, but it's too high for Konnor...)  We have the LG new type (one size below the biggest )...

I use the alphabet worksheets at School Sparks.  They're free and the author (a retired teacher) adds a new letter each week.  They also have a nice article with tips for introducing children to the alphabet letters.

We got the Leapfrog Talking Letter Factory DVD. After a week of watching the video everyday twice a day, she could recognize all of her letters and identify the sounds that they make.
