I am going to teach a group of preK a music class and am not sure where to begin. I only have 3 classes that I need to come up with something for, and I have the first one covered. Any ideas? I am thinking very easy stuff, instrument making, dancing, follow the leader, painting to music. Any other suggestions?
hmmmmm know nothing about music ed, in fact I'm pretty tone deaf myself lol. But maybe some of these would work.
ribbon/scarf dancing
games like farmer in the dell that involve songs?
freeze dancing
play games where the kids have to foloow rythm patterns and make their own.
make different shakers, you can use old play dough cans or tthose small disposabal ziploc ones. Put out things like pennies, cotton balls, etc. Have them make quiet shakers noisey shackers, use only on object or 2 tc. I did that with M last year, she was only 2 but really enjoyed it.
we went to a kids music show once were the guy had the kids stand up or sit down every time they hear a certain letter sound. Hge played a song like "my bonnie lies over teh ocean" and had them stand or sit when they heard B. They really enjoyed it. lol
How much time do you have and how many kids? Structuring say, some sing alongs, a game, a simple craft, then dancing or something like that might help. Good luck, it sounds like a lot of fun. :)
TY for the input! Some good ideas! It was somewhat of a surprise to me that I ended up with this, but thankfully there isn't too much time that I need to cover! I have 3 classes with about 9 children in our co-op and each class will last about 55 minutes. Not too bad, but I am musically incompetent!
