Basic signs for babies - the first that they learn - are things they hear on a regular basis:

  • Good Morning / Good Night
  • Milk / Breast Milk
  • Bottle
  • Thank You, Please, Sorry
  • Your Welcome
  • No
  • Stop
  • Yes
  • I Love You
  • Mommy / Daddy
  • Diaper Change

Sign / Sayings they learn as they become toddlers:

  • Potty
  • Drink, Thirsty
  • Eat, Hungry
  • Emotions: Happy, Sad, Mad, Hurt
  • Stop
  • Come Here
  • Pick up / Clean up
  • Grandma / Grandpa
  • Dinner / Breakfast / Lunch
  • Snack / Cookie / various Fruits

  • I just wanted to say thank you for this.  My son is 19 months old and even though he talks a lot...i can't understand hardly anything.  I have been working off and on with baby sign for months, and have really been at it for about a month...and he's finally doing a few.  Eat and Cup.  It's a start.  I'll be totally using your videos to help me learn so I can teach him.
