DH's commander is making the decision tomorrow on if we can go in May or not. If not then we have the opportunity to go over July 10th- 15th during block leave. We are curious how July is with crowds, heat, etc. We are really hoping for May 9th-14th because its b4 school gets out, but if not ....well, we need to make a choice. July 11th is our anniversary, so we would be in the most Magical Place on Earth for our anniversary if we went in July, but we dont want to spend it hating standing in line in the horrible heat for hours either.
We went to WDW for our honeymoon in July, 8 years ago and we survived. We were there from July 9- 15. Yes it is hot and crowded but if you know that ahead of time you can be prepared. When we went we would get to the park around 9:30 stay till lunch, go back to the resort till about 4:00 and then back to the park till close. If gave us downtime and time to cool down. Also prepared for afternoon thunderstorms in July, almost every day. They last about 15 to 30 mins.
We went last year in July. It is very hot, but you just have to deal with it. All of the parks have a lot of fountains and splash areas. We let the kids get soaked whenever they could and they never complained about being too hot once. You will sweat so just be prepared o be soaked in sweat all day. You will never stay dry. But honestly we were having such a great time that it didn't bother me. When we got too tired from the heat, we would go on a ride or see a show inside where there was air condition. And getting to the parks as early as possible is great because it is cooler and less crowded. If you can get up and just get to the park, this is best. One day we waited and went by 10 and it was mobbed!! We did a lot more earlier in the morning!! Have a great trip! A good tip about the thunderstroms is-if you see big winds get undercover and you will avoid the storm which will be over before you know it.
It's hot and humid. But if your used to it, it's really not that bad. We've been in July and August before. It's hot but bearable. We would just try to stay out of the sun at the hottest part of the day. Go back to the hotel and relax. Then head back to the parks when it was cooler. We became night owls.
Just plan for the heat.. take breaks, go in shops/rides.. Take fans..
I have a friend who has gone in every month, and stayed at every resort so far, she went in July last yr and said NEVER again, it was too hot and too crowded, she has since scratched off summer time altogether there!

I've never been with my kids, but we have been several times in July when I was younger. Miserable would be my word to describe it. Very hot and very crowded. I remember going and standing in line most of the day, it's not for me... BUT, you have to do what you have to do... if you decide to go, go for it! Maybe you could go to the parks early in the am, take a break midday when it is most crowded and SO hot, then return for nighttime. Take advantage of water attractions, pool, and water parks. It will still be magical, you just have to make the best of it! Good luck girl!

Still no answer yet...UGH. DH and I are pretty sure that if we dont get to go in May we are going to hold off. My mom said that July is horrible and not a good time to go at all (and her office is booking the vacation). She said if we have to take vacation in july to just go w/ extending our Ohio vacation and doing Cedar Point and Sesame place in Philly (when we add on a bit of education for the kids).
we went in the summer a lot as a kid... hated it... seriously...
and we've been going as a family in either dec or jan for hte past 4 years... LOVE That time of year, comfortable, nice, not crowded...
last year we went with our entire family in aug... BIG MISTAKE... everyone was MISERABLE, HEAT was horrible, lines were LONG, heat was horrible, heat was horrible... and i'll say it again, heat was horrible...
we wore sun dresses on our 3 year old and onezies on our 2 year old... anything to keep them as cool as possible... water bottles with fans, extra clothes to play in the fountains and sprinklers, an umbrella for our stroller and one for my grandmothers jazzy, LOTS of sunscreen, LOTS of water to drink
but if it's the only time you can go, then that's a decision you'll have to make... but i would try my hardest to NEVER go back then
I lived in FL for 8 years and down in Miami not that is way HOTTER THEN WDW....
we'll be at WDW July 28-31. We are only one day to a park and that is going to be MK.
We'll have the EMH 8am-9am then I am going to do my best to get all of Fantasyland done b4 11am then have lunch in Tomorrowland hung out in Tomorrowland until 2:30pm. I am doing that b/c all the rides but two our out in the heat. But we don't go on Astro Orbiter anyway so just one Indy speedway. Then see the Parade and then go on the Train then we have lunch for 4:30pm I know we'll be done eating by 5:30pm or so. Then the rest of the eveing we'll be in Adventrueland, Frontierland adn Liberty sq....to me if you just think of the parks you want to go to you'll find a way to stay out of the sun and rain with out going back to your room:)
