  • for the washing soda look at your local grocery stores in the laundry aisle, not mass ones, but local. even if they don't have it they will normally order it for you if they have arm and hammer products and since it comes in with the normal shipment you still pay the same amount as if they carried it. for the bar soap you are absolutely right, you can sub any bar soap for any bar soap called for in a recipe like this. it's all just preference.

for gardening check out our sister group-

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed this site!  I

finally started making making my laundry soap (dry) a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it.  I was able to buy the borax locally but had to buy the Fels Naptha & washing soda online, which made it a bit more expensive with shipping.  I started using the soap about a month ago, and am so pleased with it that I'm making some for Christmas presents.  Weird, I know, but I have several friends asking for it.  This soap works great.  Next batch I want to try with ivory bar soap or something similar, I think I read on here you can use that in place of the Fels Naptha, and that's one less item I have to send away for.

I finally received all the stuff to make the dry dishwasher detergent with Citric acid, doing that next.

I just cant tell you enough how much I appreciate this group.  Thanks so much -

    Chris

PS. I'm also into curb-shopping and garden junk, know of any good groups on here like that?

    Thanks again.

  • Ok, I feel silly for asking, but doesn't cleaning with vinegar make your whole house smell like vinegar?

  • Thank you for all these tips.

I can't wait to try my own dishwasher and laundry soap!!!

Kay you seem to know a ot about soapmaking.  How did you learn??  I would love to be able to look at a product and know how to make one equally as good.

    Thank you.

  • I don't know if it is because they made changes to the groups or what but I can't get any of the links above to work! I was looking through them last night and they worked fine.. now it tells me I have reached this page in error or something along those lines. Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks!
